AMITYVILLE, NY – Tina Walch, MD, medical director of South Oaks Hospital, was honored with the Leadership award by the Postpartum Resource Center during its fifth annual summer gala on August 13.
Dr. Walch, a psychiatrist with more than 25 years of experience treating behavioral health disorders, was the originator of the Nassau/Suffolk County May perinatal mood and anxiety disorders public awareness campaign “Ask the question.” She has also created the award-winning video “Why Am I Blue?”
During her acceptance speech, Dr. Walch said, “We are at a critical time in the awareness campaign, where the light is finally beginning to shine on Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders only in the mainstream press- with a recent New York Times magazine cover highlighting PMAD, but also in research, and with our legislative and medical colleagues. The word is finally getting out about the importance of screening, the importance of treatment and importance increasing access to care and reducing stigma for women with these disorders.”
